The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs for short, were developed by the United Nations to liberate humanity from poverty and put the planet back on course towards sustainability. The goals are one and indivisible and reflect the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and ecological.
The 17 goals are associated with 169 targets. The goals are a unique fusion of two global agendas: sustainable development and development cooperation. The emphasis of this agenda is on 'universality', which means that implementation should not only be in the 'Global South' but across the planet.
